How Many Telephone Numbers?

While most people only have 1 telephone number, I am a bit different. At time of writing this FAQ (2024-11-20), I have 3 numbers – all of this serves a purpose. With that said, I will go down the line for all of my telephone numbers.

  1. Cellular
  2. Home
  3. Voicemail

Cellular

As the name implies, this is a cellular phone number. It supports voice calls, and SMS. I am waiting for my carrier to support RCS with my phone. Strangely enough, this was actually my first phone number as an adult, and this was a time where number porting was not supported – and therefore, I lost the number when I moved. Some time ago, I received the number as an option, and selected it. If I was restricted to just 1 telephone number, it will be this one.

Home

As the name implies, this is a home line. I can not receive calls at this number if I am not home. Not only will my home phone line will use my home phone, but any international numbers I might have will also ring to the home phone. If you were to call my home line, and you get my voicemail, then just leave a message, and I will return your call unless it is not an option for me. However, I think I can call most places in the world for a quick call.

Voicemail

Calling this number will not ring my phone. Instead, you go straight to voicemail. If you do not leave a message, I will not call you back. I have this number for a contact point for my registrar information. When you have a domain, you are required to provide the registrar with a telephone number. I had a number of issues of scam artists offering “web design” or “SEO services” for my domains. With that in mind, I acquired the voicemail number, and made the contact changes. Now, I don’t get such calls coming to my phone. This in turn makes my life a little more pleasant. Obviously, if I was to get a legitimate call to my voicemail number, I will call back. At which point, the caller ID will show my cellular or home phone number.
