My Alaskan number is a VOIP solution that rings a particular app on my iPhone. With that said, this is not a home phone, and since there is no SIM attached to the phone, it does not fall into the cellular page. Because of this, my Alaskan number seems to deserve its own page. I can receive SMS and MMS messages, but this number does not support RCS.
Carriers
As with all of my phone lines, I will not disclose the carrier for this service. This is to reduce the chance of a bad actor to port out my phone and to another service. As long as I have a data connection, I can support unlimited VOIP calls, and unlimited SMS/MMS.
Devices
The service uses an app on my iPhone. This will essentially mean that the iPhone has a SIM carrier, and a VOIP carrier. I needed an app to install on the phone in order to make the service work. If you are curious on the specs of my device that I use, consider visiting the [cellular] page.
Conclusion
Simply put, an Alaskan telephone number calling my toll-free number will cost me 24ยข per minute. This is a lot of money, and with that said – it will make more sense to just have a dedicated Alaskan telephone number that anyone from Alaska should be able to call as a local call while still reaching me. Since the line supports both voice, and SMS – there shouldn’t be any issues in reaching out to me if calls to the continental US is considered as a long distance call.
